Job Description
SUMMARY OF POSITION
The 2nd Supervisor is responsible for the operation of the fabrication, metal stamping, finishing, and assembly department in terms of production, quality, cost, delivery, technical, safety, and high performing team members with defined goals. The 2nd shift Supervisor is responsible for all plant operations of a limited size crew and scope. Responsible for day-to-day management of people within production, to ensure company’s targets and objectives are accomplished to meet customer requirements, ensuring that staff comply with health, safety and standard operating procedures. Strives to continually improve using Lean tools to reduce costs, improve production and quality.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  Includes, but may not be limited to the following
 
  • Directs workers engaged within the fabrication, finishing, metal stamping, assembly, and quality which includes prioritizing work of others.
  • Works with Tooling Department to set-up single hit and progressive dies in accordance with safety standards and company procedures.
  • Inspects completed work for conformance to blueprints, customer specifications and standards.
  • Ensures all work assignments are completed by established deadlines.
  • Lead set-up and changeover activity on equipment based on product type.
  • Supports and monitors production activity to ensure operators are following standard work instructions and are meeting quality specifications.
  • Audits compliance with standard work instructions and process control plans to ensure production of good parts.
  • Ensures that operators are properly recording production in the PLEX system.
  • Maintain production related documents and logs to ensure availability and accuracy.
  • Monitors production activity to ensure it is aligned with customer demand and requirements.
  • Manages key performance indicators (quality, waste, productivity, on-time shipments, high performance culture, team member training, turnover, absenteeism, etc.).
  • Works with buyer/planners, quality and engineering to ensure on-time delivery/schedule execution.
  • Supports the implementation of engineering changes, production trials, model change and pilot builds.
  • Supervises and control resources effectively to support customer delivery. requirements and Lean Manufacturing principles to include 6S.
  • Monitors and maintains employee absences.
  • Conducts performance counseling to ensure the success of the new hire.
  • Ensures that corrective actions are completed within specified time frame.
  • Ensures that performance reviews are completed within 60-day, 6 month and 1 year time frames.
  • Deals with personnel issues on shift and takes appropriate action via corrective actions, performance improvements and/or performance reviews to resolve issues timely.
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENT
 
  • B.S. Degree in business, management or another related field or High School Diploma/GED from an accredited institution of higher learning
  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience in manufacturing, preferably in metal stamping environment
  • 0-3 years’ experience with fabrication, finishing, metal stamping, assembly and quality
  • 1-3 years of experience in continuous process improvement, process management and Lean principles
  • 1-3 years of experience in safety, human resource management, warehousing, shipping/receiving and quality
  • Ability to manage complex multiple project assignment priorities
  • 1-3 years’ experience with ERP systems such as PLEX, SAP, AS 400 or other manufacturing enterprise resource planning systems
